When God revealed his plan for Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses stiffened with resistance. Exodus records five excuses Moses offered to God as to why he should not be the one to confront Pharaoh and lead Israel. Essentially, they can be boiled down to the following: 1) Who am I?, 2) Who are you, God?, 3) What if they do not believe me?, 4) I'm not adequate, and 5) I don't want to! Each time God responded to Moses, shooting down the excuses and providing him with assurance. At the end, God became angry at Moses, consenting to having Aaron be the primary spokesman, and sent him to Egypt. (Cf. Ex. 3:1-4:23)
